Longeville-lès-Metz

Longe -lès -Metz is a commune with 3798 inhabitants ( January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Moselle in the Lorraine region.

Geography

The municipality is situated on both sides of the Moselle and borders immediately southwest of Metz. The old center is to the left of the Moselle, newer residential areas on the right bank of the Moselle, which form a closed settlement area along with other surrounding communities and the city of Metz.

History

The place was first mentioned in the Middle Ages as a Longa Villa and came to France in 1552. By the Peace of Frankfurt Longeville in 1871 part of the German Empire, the population rose from 774 Ew. (1890) on 1921 Ew. ( 1900) and 2518 Ew. (1910 ), about 40 percent of whom were soldiers and employees of the German army.

1915-18 ( and again 1940-44 ) was the German name of the place Langenheim at Metz. In November 1918, Longeville was returned to France.
