Ľubomír Višňovský

Lubomir Višňovský ( born August 11, 1976 in Topoľčany, Czechoslovakia) is a Slovak ice hockey and inline hockey player who has been playing in June 2012 with the New York Islanders in the National Hockey League.

Career

Višňovský began his career with the Slovak club HC Slovan Bratislava, for which he was a total of six seasons in the Slovak Extraliga on the ice before he was selected by the Los Angeles Kings during the NHL Entry Draft in 2000 as 118th in the fourth round.

Despite this high number of draft- Links shooter was already in his first season to the permanent staff of the Kings in 81 games the defender scored seven goals and 32 assists. In the 2004/ 05 lockout season, he returned to his home club Bratislava. In the season 2006/ 07 Višňovský took part in the NHL All-Star Game.

June 29, 2008, a day before a no - trade clause in his contract was valid, the Kings Jarret Stoll and Višňovský exchanged against Matt Greene from the Edmonton Oilers. For the Oilers, he graduated in the 2008 /09 season due to injury just 50 games.

On 3 March 2010 Višňovský was issued in exchange for Ryan Whitney and a draft pick to the Anaheim Ducks. In Anaheim the Slovak quickly became regulars and compelling performance by its offensive qualities. On 4 March 2011, he scored the first defenders of the franchise history a hat-trick and scored the decisive goal for the 4-3 victory over the Dallas Stars a few seconds before the end of extra time. The regular season 2010/11 ended Višňovský with 18 goals and 68 points scorer, the best value during this season in the NHL and missed it by just one point Scott Niedermayer's to equalize franchise record. With 18 goals of the offensive defender Fredrik Olaussons broke record for most goals this season a defender of the Ducks ( 16 goals in the season 1998 /99).

On 22 May 2012, one year before his five-year contract worth a total of 28 million U.S. dollars, the Californians transferred him in exchange for a second-round vote in the NHL Entry Draft in 2013 to the New York Islanders.

Internationally

For the Slovak national ice hockey team Višňovský denied since 1996 nine World Championships, winning the gold medal in 2002, silver medal, 2000 and the bronze medal in 2003 all possible medals of the tournament. He also participated with Slovakia at the World Cup of Hockey in 1996 and the Olympic Winter Games in 1998, 2002, 2006, 2010.

In June 2008, he won with the Slovak national inline hockey silver medal at the IIHF Inline Hockey World Championships 2008 in Bratislava.
