Martin Höllwarth

Höllwarth Martin ( born April 13, 1974 in Schwaz, Tyrol) is a former Austrian ski jumper. Until September 2009, he was also head coach of the Estonian ski jumping national teams.

Career

Höllwarth stood since 1989 in the squad of the Austrian Ski Federation ( Austrians ). He celebrated his first international success in 1991 by winning the World Junior Championship. In the Four Hills Tournament in 1992, he finished as a 17 -year-old behind the Finn Toni Nieminen second place. Seven weeks later, he won three silver medals at the Winter Olympics in Albertville.

In the following years Höllwarth could not preserve this form. Despite two victories in World Cup Ski Jumping (1993 in Sapporo and 1997 in Willingen ) Höllwarth did not land in the top places in the overall World Cup standings. Only at the 1998 Winter Olympics in Nagano, he finished with third place and thus winning the bronze medal in the team competition again a place on the podium. A year later he ersprang with the Austrian team at the Nordic World Ski Championships 1999 in Ramsau am Dachstein with third place in the team competition on the large hill his first World Championship medal in the adult.

In the Nordic World Ski Championships 2001 in Lahti, he was with the Austrian national ski jumping team World Champion in the team competition of the 90 - meter hill. Two more bronze medals he won in the individual ranking of the 90 - meter hill and in a team competition of the 120 - meter hill.

The following seasons brought a confirmation of these results. Between 2001 /02 and 2003/ 04 he was twice sixth and one fifth in the overall World Cup standings. Successes celebrated Höllwarth even at the Four Hills Tournament with a third place in 2002, second place in 2004 behind Norwegian Sigurd Pettersen and second place in 2005 behind Janne Ahonen. By his victory at the final competition of the tour 2004/ 05 in Bischofshofen, he prevented also that Ahonen as a second knight to Sven Hanna Forest won all four events on tour.

A dark spot experienced Höllwarth on February 4, 2001 in a traffic accident in which he drove the car and said the former head coach of the Austrian Springer, Alois Lipburger, lost his life. Höllwarth and also sitting in the car survived the accident Andreas Widhölzl with minor injuries.

On 14 March 2007 Höllwarth was removed from the Austrians nominal list because he had " harmed by statements within the team and third parties with the reputation of the Austrian Ski Federation Springer team and their employees," according to an Austrian Ski - release. These statements are the result of differences between Höllwarth and assistant coach Marc Nölke. After an apology and a meeting with the Nordic Director, Toni Innauer, Höllwarth was, however, it was learned on March 19 to participate in the next competition, the ski flying in Planica Apply permitted.

In April 2008 Höllwarth was the end of his career known as an active Springer and then worked as head coach of the Estonian national team. In summer 2008, he participated in the ORF - football show " The Match" part. The Estonian Ski Association ended the cooperation with Höllwarth in September 2009 for financial reasons and due to the lack of sporting success of the Estonian Ski Team.

Private life

Höllwarth 's time soldier in the Austrian army and a member of the Army Sports Association. He has been married since April 2001 and has three children.
