Metropolitan Borough of Deptford

The Metropolitan Borough of Deptford was a district in the metropolitan area of the British capital London, with the status of a metropolitan borough. It existed from 1900 to 1965 and was in the southeast of the former county of County of London.

History

Deptford was originally a civil parish in the county of Kent. 1730 was the separation in the municipalities of St Paul Deptford and St Nicholas Deptford. From 1855 both communities were part of the catchment area of ​​the Zweckverbandes Metropolitan Board of Works, 1889, they came to the new County of London. When it came to a further administrative reform in 1900, there was initially thinking to merge the two communities to a metropolitan borough. Eventually, however, St Paul Deptford only received this status, while St Nicholas Deptford was merged with the Metropolitan Borough of Greenwich.

At the foundation of Greater London in 1965 arose from the merger of the Metropolitan Boroughs of Lewisham Deptford and the London Borough of Lewisham.
