Metropolitan Borough of Battersea
The Metropolitan Borough of Battersea was a district in the metropolitan area of the British capital London, with the status of a metropolitan borough. It existed from 1900 to 1965 and was in the western part of the former county of County of London.
History
Battersea was originally a civil parish in the county of Surrey, which involved also the exclave of Penge. As of 1855, the village belonged to the catchment area of the administration union Metropolitan Board of Works, 1866 Penge be made independently. 1889 Battersea arrived as the new County of London, eleven years later, the conversion was followed in a metropolitan borough.
With the establishment of the administrative region of Greater London in 1965 arose from the merger of the Metropolitan Boroughs Wandsworth and Battersea London Borough of Wandsworth.
