Mezzocorona

Mezzo Corona ( German outdated Kronmetz ) until 1902 Mezzotedesco ( German German Metz ) is a municipality with 5279 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012 ) of the province of Trento in Italy. It is located in the Adige Valley about 20 km north of Trento on a hill of 219 meters below the high walls of the Monte di Mezzo Corona. Corona is an old word for rock, rock band or rock cave ( still in the local dialect with " la crona " means ).

Geography

The town is located on the Italian Brenner Motorway ( A 22), on the railway line Bolzano - Trento and at the Nonstalbahn. Mezzo Corona is a wine and fruit growing community. In viticulture dominated the variety Teroldego.

History

The fertile Rotaliana level at the outflow of the river Noce from Val di Non in the Adige Valley was inhabited in prehistoric times, as finds from the Mesolithic show. In Roman times the city was important as a waypoint on the Via Claudia Augusta. The parish is the first time 1199 dates. Mezzotedesco was until the 14th century seat of the court. 1902, the municipality in Mezzocorona was renamed because the native Italian population took exception to the old name. After connecting Mezzocorona to Italy the new name in 1924 also confirmed by the Italian side.

Cave Castle Mezzocorona

In the high cliff to which Mezzocorona refuses to speak, the Castello di San Gottardo is located at a moderate height ( German castle Kronmetz ), which has already been compared to the American Cliff Dwellings. The facility is accessible on a steep path, but is singled out by the local authorities because of the danger of falling rocks not as a tourist attraction.
