Montalbano Elicona

Montalbano Elicona is a municipality in the Province of Messina in the Italian region Sicily, with 2378 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012).

Location and data

Montalbano Elicona located 80 km southwest of Messina. The inhabitants mainly work in agriculture and animal husbandry. Here the cheese caciocavallo is made. In addition, sparkling water is obtained.

Borders the following municipalities: Basicò, Falcone, Floresta, Francavilla di Sicilia, Librizzi, Malvagna, Oliveri, Patti, Raccuja, Roccella Valdemone, San Piero Patti, Santa Domenica Vittoria and Tripi.

History

The first mention of Montalbano Elicona is known from the 11th century.
