Montigny-lès-Metz
Montigny- lès -Metz is a French commune in the department of Moselle in the Lorraine region. With 22,358 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) Montigny is to Metz Thionville and the third largest of the 730 municipalities in the department of Moselle.
Geography
The municipality of Montigny- lès -Metz is located immediately southwest of Metz. The old center is to the right of the Moselle, the subsequent southwest district of Saint -Privat is separated from the town by the railway line Metz -Nancy. Montigny, which forms a closed settlement area along with other surrounding communities and the city of Metz, has the character of a residential town in the countryside.
History
From 1915 to 1918 Montigny wore the Germanized name Monte rings and between 1940 and 1944 Montenich.
