Nels Stewart

Nelson " Nels " Stewart ( born December 29, 1902 in Montreal, Quebec; † August 21, 1957 ) was a Canadian professional ice hockey player who for the Montreal Maroons, Boston Bruins and New York Americans played from 1925 to 1940 in the National Hockey League.

Career

They called the beefy Stewart " Old Poison", as he called the " S-Line " formed with Babe Siebert and Hooley Smith at the Montreal Maroons. In his first NHL season, he was able to win with the Maroons the Stanley Cup. It should be his only. His accurate shot was feared throughout the league, but he also did not hesitate to raise the bat against his opponent.

He looked slowly due to its stocky stature, which did not prevent him to reach 324 goals. 1937 no one had scored more goals in the NHL and in 1952 he was overtaken by " The Rocket " Maurice Richard. When he retired in 1940, he had 953 minutes, even the most penalty minutes this time.

In 1962 he was honored with induction into the Hockey Hall of Fame.
