Nevyansk

Nevyansk (Russian Невьянск ) is a town in Sverdlovsk Oblast (Russia) with 24 567 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010 ).

Geography

The city is located on the eastern edge of the Middle Urals, some 100 km north of Yekaterinburg Oblasthauptstadt at the Neiwa, the left tributary of the river source Niza in the river system of the Ob.

Nevyansk is the center of a district of the same city.

Nevyansk is located on the railway line opened in 1878 Perm - Yekaterinburg, the Urals former Mine Train ( Уральская Горнозаводская железная дорога / Ural Gornosawodskaja schelesnaja doroga ).

History

Nevyansk arose in 1701 in connection with the establishment of ironworks Newjanski Zavod, which was one of the most important in the Ural region soon. However, despite the relatively large population of the place was not until 1919 city law.

Culture and sights

The main attraction is the so-called Leaning Tower of Nevyansk, an approximately 1725-40 by the entrepreneurial family Demidov, who owned the ironworks at that time, erected a watchtower. In Nevyansk there is a local history museum and a museum of ceramics and glass art.
