Nurieux-Volognat
Nurieux - Volognat is a municipality with 1044 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the French department of Ain , in the Rhône -Alpes.
Geography
Nurieux - Volognat is located on 480 m above sea level. Level, about 13 kilometers southwest of the city Oyonnax (air line). The village is located in the northern Bugey, on the southwestern edge of the basin of Izernore, in the Jura, at the eastern foot of the Montagne de Berthiand anticline.
The area of 19.34 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the southern French Jura. The eastern part is occupied by the 2 km wide, oriented in north-south direction of Izernore valley that forms a syncline the Jura folds and is drained by the Oignin northwards to Ain. On average, the valley floor is at 480 m above sea level. M. The basin rises gradually towards the south. In the west the basin is flanked by the anticline of the Montagne de Berthiand, on 836 m above sea level. M. the highest elevation of Nurieux - Volognat is achieved. Through various short erosion valleys of tributaries of Oignin this ridge is subdivided. The western boundary runs above the steep drop to the valley of the Ain.
The community Nurieux - Volognat consists of different villages, hamlets and farm groups, namely:
- Nurieux (480 m above sea level. M. ) in the basin of Izernore at the foot of the Montagne de Berthiand
- Volognat (520 m above sea level. M. ) at the eastern foot of the Montagne de Berthiand at the narrow entrance into a Seitentälchen
- Mornay (620 m above sea level. M. ) on a ridge high above the valley basin of Izernore
- Crépiat ( 645 m above sea level. M. ) on a plateau south of Mont Griset
- Verse (750 m above sea level. M. ) in a trough on the Montagne de Berthiand
Neighboring communities of Nurieux - Volognat are Sonthonnax -la -Montagne to the north, Izernore, Béard - Géovreissiat and Brion in the east, Saint -Martin- du- Frêne and Peyriat in the south and Leyssard in the West.
History
The municipal area was already inhabited during the Bronze Age and during the Roman period. Since the Middle Ages there was a Cluniac Priory in Mornay. Mornay made a rule, which also Volognat was dependent. The sovereignty over the territory had initially Thoire -Villars, from 1402, the Counts of Savoy held. The Treaty of Lyon Mornay and Volognat arrived in 1601 to France. The construction of the railway line from Bourg -en- Bresse via Nantua to Bellegarde -sur -Valserine the hamlet Nurieux received ( part of the community Mornay ) is a train station. Boasting a Nurieux therefore developed much more rapidly than the agricultural village Mornay and became the settlement focus of the community. In 1973, merged the two communities Mornay and Volognat, the new church was given the name Nurieux - Volognat.
Attractions
The Romanesque church of Mornay is originally from the 11th century, later remodeled several times and has wall paintings from the 15th century. From the 19th century the Church of Volognat dated.

Population
With 1044 inhabitants ( 1 January 2011) Nurieux - Volognat one of the smaller communities of the department of Ain. Since the early 1960s, a substantial population increase was recorded, together with a doubling of the population.
Economy and infrastructure
Nurieux - Volognat was until well into the 20th century a predominantly coined by farming village. In addition, there are now a number of companies of small and medium enterprises. Nurieux is the site of operation of the plastics processing and a power plant. Meanwhile, the village has also changed into a residential community. Many workers are therefore commuters who engage in the larger towns in the vicinity of their work.
The village has a good infrastructure. It lies on the secondary road D979 which leads from Nantua over the Col de Berthiand to Bourg -en- Bresse. Further road links exist with Izernore, Sonthonnax -la -Montagne and Peyriat. The nearest links to the motorway A404 ( Saint -Martin- du- Frêne - Oyonnax ) is located at a distance of about 4 km.
Nurieux has a station on the railway line Bourg -en- Bresse Bellegarde. On this day hold a grande vitesse Train à ( TGV) train pair of Geneva- Paris Gare de Lyon. Also, keep in Nurieux TER trains from Bourg -en- Bresse to Oyonnax.
