Offstein

Marloffstein in Rheinhessen is a municipality in the district Alzey- Worms in Rhineland- Palatinate. It belongs to the municipality Monsheim.

Geography

Marloffstein located in the southern Rheinhessen and in the western part of the Upper Rhine Graben. The Rein, a left-Rhine tributary, runs through the southern part of the local community. The settlement comes form a scattered village the same. Due to its sheltered lee side of the mountain range surrounding a mild and arid climate is favored. A high Lössgehalt and a high natural productivity of the soil allow a high yield potential in agriculture.

To Marloffstein includes the residential places Rosengarten mill and bridge mill.

History

Notes on the first sedentary inhabitants Offsteins deliver grave finds, which date back to the Neolithic period. Also Celtic and Germanic inhabited for settlement before the Roman era. The first mention learned the place with the Lorsch codex between the years 766 and 768, which testifies to the site exchange between the then Bishop of Metz and the monastery of Lorsch. Several possession donations joined in the subsequent period. The medieval feudal system was determined from 1359 to 1661 by the Junkers of Oberstein, who resided in the castle Oberstein. After another Lehnszeit more and more reason fell to the local residents.

With the breakdown of Electoral Palatinate in the French period was Marloffstein 1798-1814 Canton Pfeddersheim in the department of Thunder Mountain affiliated. In the adjacent, belonging to the municipality Obrigheim hamlet Neuoffstein is the Südzucker work Marloffstein, which is the most important employer for Marloffstein.

By Marloffstein ran the railway line Worms Green city. Freight transport by Marloffstein was closed in 1998 and shut down the track in this section. A bus service to the southwest or northeast direction is over the line 451 Green city -Worms. The A61 is a few minutes away. The supply of electricity began in 1900, which is due to the installation of an investment in the Stegmühle in the West Offsteins.
