Coat of arms

The Spiessheimer municipal coat of arms was approved by the then District Government Rheinhessen-Pfalz 1986. It goes back to a court seal from 1492, the 1738 was still demonstrably in use. It already shows all the attributes of today's coat of arms in a shield that was worn by the holy patron Stephen as a plate holder. This seal must still have existed in 1900, as it was in the collection of seals Otto Hupp 1894-1928 recording.

It is made up of former coat of arms of local families. The Fidel in red, sprinkled with flowers field refers to the family of Wilch of Alzey ( cf. tomb in the tower of the Catholic. Church). The golden lion in bestreutem with golden shingles field represents the Lords of Lowenstein, the charges in 1248, the patronage rights over the Spiessheimer church to the monastery of Sion at Mauchenheim. The rising Cloths and Hifthörner, medieval hunting horns, relate to more noble families, of which unfortunately only one is known: on an old grave stone in the church at Spiesheim is a coat of arms with a red bugle ( on red triple mount in gold) as the lords of Horneck belonging detected. Maybe it also is the - color- flipped - coat of arms of Mainz originally patrician family to the boy.
