Albig

Albigensian is a municipality in the district Alzey- Worms in Rhineland- Palatinate. It belongs to the municipality of Alzey -Land.

History

Traces of Neolithic (Spiral ceramics) and Iron Age settlement ( presumably by the Celts ) were found in Albig. Some finds, including fibula, ring and vessels from a late La Tène temporal grave are exhibited at the Landesmuseum Mainz. On a hill near the Albigensian foundations of a Roman villa rustica were discovered and named in the mistaken assumption that it is a medieval castle, "Schloss Hammerstein ".

The first mention of Albigensian dates from the year 767 to a vineyard deed of gift for the monastery of Lorsch.

From the 14th to the late 18th century the village belonged to Electoral Palatinate gorgeous country and was under the administration and the jurisdiction of the Upper Office Alzey.

After taking the left bank of the Rhine by French revolutionary troops in 1797, the region was annexed by France. From 1798 to 1814 belonged to the Albigensian Canton Alzey in the department of Thunder Mountain. Albigensian was the capital of a Mairie, who was also Bermersheim.

Viniculture

Albigensian part of the " wine field Nierstein " in the Rheinhessen region. In the village 24 wineries operate, the area under vines is 345 hectares. Approximately 72 % of the cultivated wine are white wine varietals (as of 2010 ). In 1979, 77 companies were still active, the former vineyard was 284 acres.

Traffic

On the territory of the municipality is the interchange Alzey. The next two motorway junctions are nevertheless good 2 to 3 miles away, these are: Biebelnheim for the A63 and Bornheim for the A61.
