Recording
George Harrison made several attempts to take Old Brown Shoe The Beatles. During the recording sessions for the album Let It Be originated on January 27, 1969, two first versions. For the first inclusion Harrison accompanied only on piano, on the second version played Paul McCartney, John Lennon, Ringo Starr and George Harrison - accompanied by Billy Preston - together. On the two following days, about ten other versions emerged. None of these recordings was ever released.
On February 25, 1969 Harrison took alone on a demo version of Old Brown Shoe. It was his 26th birthday. First, he took up the piano and singing, and then added a line of guitars. This version was released in 1996 as part of the Anthology series.
It was only on 16 April 1969, the Beatles came together at London's Abbey Road Studios to record a final version of Old Brown Shoe. It was the first time since the fourth year that the Beatles ever worked together in the studio. Just two days earlier, Paul McCartney and John Lennon recorded without Ringo Starr and George Harrison song The Ballad of John and Yoko for a single release. Old Brown Shoe should now be the B-side. Produced Old Brown Shoe by George Martin and Chris Thomas, whom Jeff Jarratt assisted. First, Harrison took the morning on another demo version of the song. On the evening of April 14, 1969 four takes arisen in full occupation. This recording has been added guitar, bass and vocals in the overdub process piano. Harrison took his singing in a corner of the studio to give his voice a more intimate character. Two days later, Harrison added recording a Hammond organ and another guitar solo.
Publication
On May 30, 1969 Old Brown Shoe appeared on the B- side of the single The Ballad of John and Yoko. The song is included on any regular studio album by the Beatles. Instead, it is found on many compilations of the Beatles, including the so-called Blue album, Hey Jew and Past Masters.
