ÅŒta, Tokyo

Ōta (Japanese大田 区, -ku ) is the largest area of the 23 wards of Tokyo and the third largest by population of the municipality of Tokyo Prefecture.

Geography

As the southernmost of the 23 districts he is bordered to the north by the districts of Shinagawa, Meguro and Setagaya, and Kōtō in the east. In the south and west Ōta borders the city of Kawasaki in Kanagawa Prefecture. The Tama forms the border between the two cities, their development approach extends on both sides to the river. History

The Special District ( tokubetsu -ku ) Ōta was born on March 15, 1947 by merging the old city districts Omori (大 森 区) and Kamata (蒲 田 区) created the city of Tokyo. The name Ōta was here from the concatenation of the first kanji of Omori and the last of Kamata, neglecting the suffix ' ku.

50 -member Parliament and Mayor of Ōta were last elected in the unified regional elections in April 2011.
