Petite-Rosselle

Petite- Roselle ( German Klein Rosseln ) is a commune with 6567 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Moselle in the Lorraine region. The place is located in Canton stiring - helix in the arrondissement of Forbach. The inhabitants of Petite- Roselle are the Rossellois.

Geography

Petite- Roselle is located directly on the border with Germany. Neighboring village of Petite- Roselle on the German side of the border is Großrosseln in Saarland. Both places belong to Warndt, the cross-border forest area in Saarland and Lorraine.

History

The historic town Rosseln at Rossel, a left-side tributary of the Saar, was founded in 1290. 1326 was the separation into the two present-day villages left and right of Rossel. Today, the Rossel forms the border between Germany and France, but Petite- Roselle and Großrosseln are partner communities.

Economy

Since 1856 the coal mining was the economic foundation of the Saarland -Lorraine region, including Petite- Roselle was dependent on mining. Today, however, all mine activities are set.

Leisure and Tourism

In 2006, the largest exhibition mine in France La Mine, grandeur nature was opened in Petite- Roselle on the site of the former pits Wendel and Vuillemin. The project was funded by the Département Moselle, the EU, the coal company Charbonnage de France and formed an association with the communities and Forbach Freyming -Merlebach.
