Plascheid

Plascheid is a municipality in the district of Bitburg -Prüm, in Rhineland -Palatinate. It belongs to the municipality New Castle.

Geography

Plascheid is located in the South Eifel nature. The municipality also includes the living space Beyerhof.

History

The first known documentary evidence dates from 1450. The name can be traced back in the forms Planischit, Plonscheid, Plain Scheid, Plainscht and is probably derived from the Latin word planus ( = wide, flat, open) back. Traces of the local point back to the 13th century. Until the annexation by French revolutionary troops 1794/95 Plascheid belonged to the basic rule of county of Vianden in the Duchy of Luxembourg and was home to a dairy farm with the places Berkoth, Burscheid, Itzfelderhof, Fischbach, Heilbach, Alferhof, Wehrshausen, Windshausen, scouring Altscheuern and Uppershausen. 1815 Plascheid was assigned to the Kingdom of Prussia at the Congress of Vienna. After the First World War at times again occupied by the French, the place is since 1946 part of Rhineland- Palatinate then newly founded.

Parish council

The local council in Plascheid consists of six council members, who were elected at the municipal election held on 7 June 2009 by majority vote, and the honorary mayor as chairman.

Economy

The number of farms in Plascheid has fallen sharply in recent decades. At the time (2006) still produce four farms with 37 ha on average unused space.
