Altscheid

Altscheid is a municipality in the district of Bitburg -Prüm, in Rhineland -Palatinate. It belongs to the municipality New Castle.

Geography

The municipality is located partially in the South Eifel nature. To Altscheid includes the living space Birch Dell and part of the hamlet Neumühlestrasse.

History

A church was mentioned in a register dating from around 1330. The Visitation Protocol of 1570 resulted in " Alschidt " a free curate 's Chapel, which was designated by 1654 as a parish church.

By the end of the 18th century Altscheid belonged to the county of Vianden in Luxembourg.

After 1792 French Revolutionary troops had the Austrian Netherlands, which included the Duchy of Luxembourg, occupied and annexed in October 1795. From 1795 to 1814 the place to Canton New Castle belonged to the department of forests.

In 1815, the former Luxembourg territory east of the Sauer and the Our was assigned to the Kingdom of Prussia at the Congress of Vienna. Thus, the community came Altscheid 1816 Bitburg in the Trier region in the province of the Grand Duchy of the Lower Rhine, which merged in 1822 in the Rhine Province.

The nave of the village church was extended in 1886 to a yoke to the west. After World War II temporarily occupied by the French, the place is since 1946 part of Rhineland- Palatinate.

In 1991, the village hall from the rectory after a complete renovation. A year later, the parish church was renovated.

Parish council

The local council in Altscheid consists of six council members, who were elected at the municipal election held on 7 June 2009 by majority vote, and the honorary mayor as chairman.
