Sevenig bei Neuerburg

Sevenig in New Castle is a municipality in the district of Bitburg -Prüm, in Rhineland -Palatinate. It belongs to the municipality New Castle.

Geographical location

Sevenig is located in the Eifel Mountains, 3 km from the border with Luxemburg near Preischeid. The addition " at New Castle " is used to distinguish it from the 10 km further north, at the border triangle Germany - Luxembourg - Belgium situated Sevenig (Our).

History

The first written mention of the village was carried out in 1310 as Scheninich. 1466 emerged the place as Sevenich, in the 17th century as Zevenich in the literature. In 1615, there were four Sevenig Stock goods which fall under the dairy Karlshausen. Until the annexation by French revolutionary troops 1794/95 Sevenig was part of the lordship of Vianden. 1815 Sevenig was assigned to the Kingdom of Prussia at the Congress of Vienna. After the First World War at times again occupied by the French, the place is since 1946 part of Rhineland- Palatinate then newly founded.

The name component " in New Castle " was the municipality on 1 January 1971.

Parish council

The local council in Sevenig in New Castle is composed of six council members, who were elected at the municipal election held on 7 June 2009 by majority vote, and the honorary mayor as chairman.
