Berscheid

Berscheid is a municipality in the district of Bitburg -Prüm, in Rhineland -Palatinate. It belongs to the municipality New Castle.

Geography

Berscheid is located in the South Eifel nature. To Berscheid includes the residential places Gaymühle, Höhhof, Kandlerhof and Schiershof.

History

A mention of the place is to be found already in the 12th century as Bersheit. The name evolved over Berlynseit 1252 Berlesheit 1311 and is 1570 Bereßscheid, 1654 to Berschedt, as first of a chapel at the site is mentioned.

By the end of the 18th century the village belonged to the county of Vianden in Luxembourg.

After 1792 French Revolutionary troops had the Austrian Netherlands, which included the Duchy of Luxembourg, occupied and annexed in October 1795. From 1795 to 1814 the place to Canton New Castle belonged to the department of forests.

In 1815, the former Luxembourg territory east of the Sauer and the Our was assigned to the Kingdom of Prussia at the Congress of Vienna. Thus, the community came Berscheid 1816 Bitburg in the Trier region in the province of the Grand Duchy of the Lower Rhine, which merged in 1822 in the Rhine Province. Parish council

The local council in Berscheid consists of six council members, who were elected at the municipal election held on 7 June 2009 by majority vote, and the honorary mayor as chairman.

Attractions

The present church was built in 1773 and St. Bernard was from 1808 to 1836 parish church. It was structurally compromised completely renovated in 1984/85 under the direction of the association South Eifel nature eV from the inside and the outside.

Traffic

Berscheid is part of the Transport Association Region Trier. The nearest railway station is Diekirch, about 20 kilometers to the south in the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg.
