Niederraden

Niederraden is a municipality in the district of Bitburg -Prüm, in Rhineland -Palatinate. It belongs to the municipality New Castle.

Geographical location

The town is located near the mouth of Raden Bach in the Enz, southeast of New Castle. Neighboring towns are Fischbach- Oberraden, Utscheid and Sinspelt. To Niederraden includes the living space Krummacker.

History

Niederraden is first mentioned in 1501 as Nyeraden together with the adjacent upper Raden. After the Thirty Years' War, the city remained almost desolate. Niederraden belonged to the county of Vianden in Luxembourg and was in the administrative and judicial district of the dairy Geckler.

With the occupation of the Austrian Netherlands ( 1794), which included the Duchy of Luxembourg by French revolutionary troops, the place was French and was from 1795 to 1814 to the forests department. 1815, the former Luxembourg territory east of the Sauer and the Our the Congress of Vienna was assigned to the Kingdom of Prussia. This came Niederraden 1816 Bitburg in the Trier region and has been managed by the mayor Outscheid.

End of the 19th century St. Mary's Chapel was built. 1910, the place had 83 inhabitants, the number has since declined. In the 1930s, the old Lady Chapel was replaced by a new building. Since 1946 Niederraden is part of Rhineland- Palatinate then newly founded and since 1970 belongs to the municipality New Castle.

The local council in Niederraden consists of six council members, who were elected at the municipal election held on 7 June 2009 by majority vote, and the honorary mayor as chairman.
