Emmelbaum

Emmelbaum is a municipality in the district of Bitburg -Prüm, in Rhineland -Palatinate. It belongs to the municipality New Castle.

Geography

Emmelbaum is on the Arzfelder plateau in the West Eifel. The municipality also the residential home places Schmitz, Sachsenhauserhof and Windhof include ( Wallenbornerhof ).

History

The town was first mentioned in 1477 as Emmelbende. Other written sources speak of Emmelbem 1570 and 1664 Emmel leg.

By the end of the 18th century the city belonged to the rule in New Castle Duchy of Luxembourg and the management of the dairy Koxhausen - Leimbach was assumed.

In 1794, French revolutionary troops had the Austrian Netherlands, which included the Duchy of Luxembourg, occupied and annexed in October 1795. From 1795 to 1814 the place belonged to the canton Arzfeld in the department of forests.

In 1815, the former Luxembourg territory east of the Sauer and the Our was assigned to the Kingdom of Prussia at the Congress of Vienna. Thus, the community came Emmelbaum 1816 Bitburg in the Trier region in the province of the Grand Duchy of the Lower Rhine, which merged in 1822 in the Rhine Province. Emmelbaum was managed by the mayor Ammeldingen.

1872 Emmelbaum was almost completely destroyed by fire, only one house was spared. After World War II temporarily occupied by the French, the place is since 1946 part of Rhineland- Palatinate then newly founded.
