Niedergeckler

Niedergeckler is a municipality in the district of Bitburg -Prüm, in Rhineland -Palatinate. It belongs to the municipality New Castle.

Geography

Niedergeckler is located in the South Eifel nature and directly on the main road 50 Bitburg- Diekirch far from Mette village. The municipality also includes the living space Brückenhof.

History

Written mention of the town in 1453 as a low Jeckler, 1477 Nyeder Gecklair, 1762 Niedergeckler. With five floor goods Niedergeckler 1615 belonged to dairy Obergeckler in the county of Vianden Luxembourg.

With the occupation of the Austrian Netherlands ( 1794), which included the Duchy of Luxembourg by French revolutionary troops, the place was French and was from 1795 to 1814 to the forests department. 1815, the former Luxembourg territory east of the Sauer and the Our the Congress of Vienna was assigned to the Kingdom of Prussia.   • The Catholic Church of Saint Martin Branch of Niedergeckler was built in 1570. The choir of the chapel and the nave date from this time. 1733 when conversion also round-arched windows were installed as part of a major renovation. The current tower dates from 1877. A sacristy (1910) and a new transept (1930 ) was the expansion in the 20th century.
