Muxerath

Muxerath is a municipality in the district of Bitburg -Prüm, in Rhineland -Palatinate. It belongs to the municipality New Castle.

Geography

Muxerath is located on the 535 meter high Muxerather altitude, about 2 km south-west of New Castle. The municipality also includes the residential places Ackelshof, Friesbornerhof, Görgenhof, Kreutz village and Steinshof.

History

1501, the town was first mentioned as Motzerait. The place has a small chapel, which belongs to the parish of New Castle. Until the occupation of the left bank of the Rhine in 1794 by French revolutionary troops Muxerath belonged to the Luxembourg rule New Castle, in 1815 it was assigned to the Kingdom of Prussia at the Congress of Vienna. After the First and Second World Wars temporarily again occupied by the French, the place is since 1946 part of Rhineland- Palatinate then newly founded.

1910, the population was 103, since then it has been declining mainly due to rural exodus.

Parish council

The local council in Muxerath consists of six council members, who were elected at the municipal election held on 7 June 2009 by majority vote, and the honorary mayor as chairman.

Attractions

Next to the chapel are mentioned as monuments of the frieze Borner Hof and Steinshof north of the village and the old forge. Far from the village there are also the remains of a West Wall bunker.
