Provenchères-lès-Darney

Provenchères -lès -Darney is a commune in the Vosges department in the Lorraine region. It belongs to the district Neufchâteau, for Canton Darney and founded the 1992 Local Government Association Pays de Saône et Madon.

Geography

The 176 inhabitants (1 January 2011 ) scoring community Provenchères -lès -Darney is between Contrexévillenear and Darney, about ten kilometers south of Vittel in the extreme southwest of Lorraine.

On the northern boundary of the parish, the Meuse -Rhône watershed runs. Here is the Haut-de- thiébaut to 458 m, the highest point in the municipality. The springing on the boundary Provenchères streams Ruisseau le Sicherey and Ruisseau de Quart Fontaine flow independently in the south to the upper Saône.

More than half of the municipal area is covered by forests ( les Grand Bois ).

Neighboring communities of Provenchères are Lignéville in the north, Saint- Baslemont in the northeast, Relanges to the southeast, and Nonville Bleurville in the south and Viviers- le-Gras in the West.

History

In 1136 the village was first mentioned as De Provincheriis in a document. Provenchères belonged to the bailiwick Bassigny later the provost and the Bailiwick of Lamarche. The congregation Provenchères was part of the Deanery of the Diocese of Toul in Vittel. The tithe was thereby divided between the Baron of Deuilly, whose family was resident in Serécourt, and the abbot of Luxeuil. Castle Le Cras was destroyed in 1691 by the Swedes. At still remember the street names Rue du Cras and Allée du Cras. To avoid confusion with the community Provenchères -sur- Fave, located in the department of Vosges also, Provenchères was renamed by decree of 22 May 1867 Provenchères -lès -Darney.
