Říčany (Brno-Country District)

Říčany ( German Ritschans, also Ricany ) is a municipality in the Czech Republic. It is located 16 kilometers west of the center of Brno and belongs to Okres Brno- venkov.

Geography

Říčany located in the valley of the brook Říčanský Potok, even Ricky, ( Mühlbach ) in the Boskovická Brázda ( Bosko brázda ) at the transition to Bobravská Highlands. To the east of Lipový raise vrch ( 478 m) and Kopeček ( 479 m), in the south of Velehrádky ( 388 m) and west of the Velky Okrouhlík (454 m). North of the village runs the highway D1 / E 55 / E 65, the next exit 178 is located one mile east at Ostrovačice. To the east lies the nature park Podkomorske lesy and the Brno Circuit.

History

The first written mention of the village was carried out in 1237 in a document Wenceslas I of the assignment of several villages in the Church of St. Peter in Brno, where the brothers Karel Benes and Ladislav Říčany as witnesses. Seat of the Lords of Říčany who belonged to a widely branched Bohemian-Moravian gender, was the stronghold Ricky.
