Santo Stefano d'Aveto

Santo Stefano d' aveto is a municipality with 1189 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012) in the Italian region Liguria, Genoa Province. The municipality is located in the Natural Park aveto.

The neighboring municipalities are Bedonia and Tornolo in the province of Parma, Borzonasca and Rezzoaglio in the Province of Genoa and Ferriere in the province of Piacenza.

Geography

Santo Stefano d' aveto located in the Val d' aveto, on the banks of the river aveto. The other one in a small valley and from the 1804 meter high Mount Maggiorasca dominated community itself is at an altitude of 1012 meters above sea level. It is about 76 km away from the regional capital is Genoa. From Santo Stefano d' aveto several hiking trails lead to the peaks of Mount Maggiorasca, Monte Groppo Rosso (1594 meters), Monte Roncalla ( 1658 meters), Monte Penna (1735 m) and the Monte Aiona ( 1702 meters). The economy of Santo Stefano d' aveto based on agriculture and tourism. In the winter months the community is the goal of many winter sports enthusiasts from the Province of Genoa and the neighboring provinces, thanks to a number of ski slopes and cross country trails.

Culture and sights

The municipality belongs to the land of the Quattro Province, a mountainous region in the north of the Italian Apennines, consisting of the four provinces of Pavia, Alessandria, Genoa and Piacenza, which is characterized by the use of common costumes, songs and dances of ancient. In the latter, a distinct Celtic descent can be made out. A traditional musical instrument of this region is the Piffero, which is accompanied by an accordion or a Musa, a bagpipe.
