Skonto FC

Skonto Riga (official discount Futbola clubs) is a Latvian football club from the capital Riga. The club was founded in 1991 and has 14 tracks giants in Latvia.

History

The club was founded in 1991 as a forum - discount and in 1992 renamed to Skonto FC after the same group of companies of the President Guntis Indriksons, which includes, among other things, construction companies, steel trading, freight forwarders, a luxury seafood restaurant in Riga and the private radio station Radio discount.

Under the name of Forum - discount the club in 1991, first won the regional championship of the Latvian Soviet Socialist Republic, then to gain from 1992 to 2004 than Skonto FC all Masters title of independent Latvia. This series could be finished by FK Liepājas Metalurgs until 2005. In addition, the team was twelve times in the Latvian Cup final, which they previously won seven times.

Cash discount home ground was initially the Daugava Stadium ( Daugava stadium ) until 28 June 2000, the 9,500 -seat stadium discount ( discount stadium ) was opened.

Discount participates regularly in the Baltic League and already stood twice in the finals of this competition. 1993/94 subject to the club with 9:10 in the penalty shootout against Zalgiris Vilnius, 2008 discount had with 1-2 against FBK Kaunas also left behind. But a few years later won discount in the season 2010 /11 Baltic League against FK Ventspils on penalties.

The basketball department had from 2001 to 2004 is a professional men's team in the Latvian Basketball League, which continued the tradition of BK Brocēni, who had won from 1992 to 1999, the first national championship after independence.
