St. Petersburg Open

The ATP tournament in St.Petersburg ( formally St. Petersburg Open ) is a men's tennis tournament, which will be held in St. Petersburg, Russia since 1995; it replaced the tournament in Saragossa in the event calendar of the ATP Tour. The venue is the SKK Peterburgski, is played on indoor hard courts. The tournament is currently underway as part of the ATP World Tour 250 alternated Both date and covering the tournament, the tournament beginning in the spring was (usually early March ) held, now it will be held in the fall (October or November ); first was also played on carpet, but since 2008 (as already between 2000 and 2003 ) you play hard courts.

Record winner in the individual with two victories are Thomas Johansson, Marat Safin and Andy Murray. In doubles Nenad Zimonjic is with three tournament victories the most successful players.

Achievements of German-speaking players

Germany

David Prinosil (1999), Rainer Schuettler (2001) and Nicolas Kiefer (2005) reached the final. Also to be seen as a success is to reach the semi-finals of Michael Stich (1997) and Lars Müller Castle (1996).

In doubles, the German duo Michael Kohlmann and Rainer Schuettler in 2003 only lost in the final. Also very far came Nicolas Kiefer 2002 ( with Andrei Pavel ) when he moved into the semi-finals.

Austria

Best performance was an Austrian player Stefan Koubek of the quarter-finals in 2001.

The Austrian duo Julian Knowle and Jurgen Melzer won the tournament in 2005 and reached the finals a year later. For Julian Knowle it was after 2003 ( with Nenad Zimonjic ) already the second triumph in St. Petersburg. In addition, Jurgen Melzer ( with Todd Perry ) in 2007 reached the final.

Switzerland

Marc Rosset in 1998 reached the final and won the tournament a year later.

In double Jakob Hlasek reached the finals in 1995.
