Standard Liège

Standard Liege, official name Royal Standard Club de Liège, is one of the most successful football clubs in Belgium and based in Liege. He plays in the Belgian first division.

History

The Royal Standard Club de Liège was founded on 1 April 1900 by students as a standard FC. In 1923 he added the club name, by awarding royal predicate. The club name was originally inspired by standard de Paris, a formerly popular French club. 1996, the former first division RFC Seraing joined the club.

Standard Liege, the second in the eternal league table of Belgium, has so far been ten times Belgian champion and won six times the Belgian Cup. He came in 1982 in the European Cup Winners' Cup to the finals before, but after it lost to an early 1-0 lead at the Camp Nou stadium in Barcelona close to the FC Barcelona 1-2. On 20 April 2008, the team was able to secure through a 2-0 against RSC Anderlecht, the Belgian Championship for the first time since 1983 in predetermining end home game. After the season champion coach Michel Preud'homme extended his contract ending and moved to KAA Gent. When deciding Preud'hommes against further involvement in Liege was the duration of his new contract, the sticking point. While the coach favored a two-year contract, the club would rather complete a one-year contract. From June 2008 to February 2010 the team was coached by former Romanian national team László Bölöni.

In the 2008 /09 season standard could defend the title after two play-off matches against RSC Anderlecht. The playoffs were necessary after both clubs had finished the season with 77 points and 24 wins respectively. The goal difference does not matter in Belgium.

After a 1-1 first-leg victory against the standard record champion in the return match in Liege 1-0. It was the tenth title of Liege.

The contract was terminated with Bölöni On February 10, 2010 and the technical director Dominique D' Onofrio took over the training of the team until the end of the season.

Stadium

The club plays its home games in the third- largest stadium in Belgium, the built in 1984 Maurice Dufrasne Stadium, unofficially called Stade Sclessin from. The stadium has a capacity of around 30,000 spectators.

Women's Soccer

The women's football department has played the 2012/2013 season in the League BeNe Red and was in the Eerste Klasse since its foundation in 1975, 14 times champion.
