Tennessee House of Representatives

The House of Representatives from Tennessee (Tennessee House of Representatives ) is the lower house of the Tennessee General Assembly, the legislature of the U.S. state of Tennessee.

According to the Constitution of Tennessee from 1870 to the Parliament Chamber of Deputies is composed 99, representing an electoral district respectively. The deputies are elected in the even numbered years for two -year terms. The elections take place simultaneously with the for the U.S. House of Representatives and other offices. The Primary will be held on the first Tuesday in August. Seats that are vacated by the death or resignation of a member of parliament, are filled by the County Committee (or the Metropolitan County Council ) of the domiciled counties of the Member concerned. A by-election will take place only if the remaining term is greater than one year.

The conference hall of the House of Representatives is located together with the State Senate in the Tennessee State Capitol in Nashville the capital.

Structure of the chamber

Speaker of the House is the Speaker of the House. He is initially elected by the majority faction of the chamber before the confirmation by the whole Parliament follows. The Speaker is also responsible for the course of legislation and monitors the shutdowns in the various committees. Current incumbent is Beth Harwell of Nashville, deputies of the Republicans from the 56th election district. Furthermore, a Speaker Pro Tempore is elected by the House of Representatives, which holds the Presidency only during the absence of the speaker. Current Speaker Pro Tempore Judd Matheny is the Republican from the 47th district election.

Other important office holders are the Majority Leader ( Majority Leader ) and the leader of the opposition (minority leader), who are elected by the respective fractions. The Republican majority party is currently led by Gerald McCormick from Hamilton County, 26th District election, Minority leader of the Democrats is Craig Fitzhugh of the 82nd electoral district.
