Vehicle registration plates of Egypt

The current Egyptian license plates were introduced in mid-2008 and will replace all of the older signs in the foreseeable future. The new number plates were produced by the German Uch AG and have a special film with holograms, which will complicate fakes. The signs have the measure 170 mm × 350 mm and are divided in two horizontally. The upper area shows the state name in English and Arabic ( Arabic مصر EGYPT respectively ), the color of the background refers to the vehicle type. The lower part of the plate shows black font on a white background. Left right up to three characters appear a maximum of four digits, first in Arabic including in Latin script. Older Features

Older characters indicate partially in the left margin maximum of three letters, which make it possible to determine the origin of the vehicle more closely. The letters encode the corresponding province, which is often modeled on the English spelling, or the corresponding capital.
