It is believed the castle and settlement in the 12th century have emerged, however, exist on the place de Bytysch only since 1376 for documentary evidence. In the Hussite wars, the settlement was destroyed in 1428 by the lord of the castle and rebuilt later. Since 1475 Bittischka was designated as a market. During the Thirty Years' War, the Swedes burned down in 1645 Bittitschka. Nearby mining was carried on iron ores. 1717 an iron hammer was built in the valley of Bittischka.

The most famous owner of the castle and the market was in the years 1830 to 1844 Gustav of Sweden. 1860 presented the ironworks operating. 1880 1,700 people lived in the market. In 1910 the town had 1840 inhabitants, of whom 1832 were Czechs.

Veverská Bítýška received in 1911 by the private local railway Gurein - Bittischka - Eichhorn rail connection. In 1936 the local train was stopped for economic reasons. The originally planned construction of the main line Brno- Havlíčkův Brod by the Svratka Valley was discarded in the 1930s due to high costs. This line was then traced out east in the 1950s.
