Weisenheim am Berg

Way home on the mountain, Palatine " Weisrem " (or to illustrate that not way home is meant in the sand: " Weisremberg ") is a municipality in the district of Bad Durkheim in Rhineland- Palatinate. It belongs to the municipality Freinsheim. Way home on the mountain is a nationally recognized tourist.

Geography

The community lies on the edge of the Harz Mountains, in the Palatinate. 55 percent of the district area is forested. To the south, Bad Durkheim, in the west Altleiningen, in the north Bobenheim on the mountain and to the east is Herxheim on the mountain.

History

The first documentary mention of the place was in the year 771 in the Lorsch Codex. Oldest and most important building is the Protestant Church (formerly St. John and Paul ), which has medieval paintings.

The local council in way home consists of 16 council members, who were elected at the municipal election held on 7 June 2009 of personalized proportional representation, and the honorary mayor as chairman.

Natural Monuments

The nearby surrounded by mixed forest Ungeheuersee is protected as a natural monument.

Regular events

  • On holiday weekend Ascension takes place the traditional partnership, wine and local festival as the largest regular event way home.
  • Every year, on the penultimate weekend in August, the church fete, celebrated a wine festival.
  • On the Sunday before the Memorial Day the Stutz festival takes place, in which traditionally the new citizens " trimmed ", are thus naturalized.

Economy and infrastructure

To the east runs the federal highway 271 which leads north to the Federal Highway 6. In Herxheim am Berg is a railway station of Palatine Northern Railway. From Bad Durkheim from the Rhein- Haardt Bahn runs to Ludwigshafen and Mannheim. Way home on the mountain is located in the tariff area of the transport association Rhein- Neckar.

In way home there is a daycare and an elementary and junior high school plus.

  • Karl Gayer (1822 - 1907), forest scientist, was from 1851-55 forester in way home on the mountain.
  • Johann Georg Lehmann (1797 - 1876), minister and historian, held the evangelical pastor from 1828 way home on the mountain.
  • Theo Roerig ( born 1940 ), sculptor, designed the chancel of the Catholic Church in way home on the mountain.
