Weißenfels (district)

The district of Weissenfels was a district in the south of Saxony- Anhalt. On 1 July 2007 it was fused to the castle district to the new castle county as part of the district reform in Saxony- Anhalt. Neighboring districts were the district Merseburg - cross- ford, in the east of the Saxon administrative district Leipziger Land and in the south and west of the castle district in the north.

History

Prussia

After the reorganization of the circle outline in the Prussian state after the Congress of Vienna, the circles Naumburg and Weissenfels were established in the district of Merseburg in the Prussian province of Saxony on October 1, 1816. The district offices were in Naumburg and Weissenfels.

On January 1, 1818, county Naumburg, who has only the old pen areas was, ie the city of Naumburg had with the districts and precincts suburbs and villages Altenhof, Grochlitz, wickets yards, Schoenburg and Wethau includes, to enlarge further communes of Weissenfels. 1821 areas of formerly Saxon Office Freyburg were subordinate to the District Office Naumburg.

Since 1 July 1867, circle the North German Confederation and from January 1, 1871 belonged to the German Empire.

On March 28, 1878, the rural communities Gieckau, Pohlitz, Rathewitz and Scheiplitz from among Weissenfels were made ​​and incorporated into the circle Naumburg. From 1 April 1899, the municipality of Weissenfels formed a separate urban district. The previous circle Weissenfels led accordingly now the term county.

After the city Weissenfels no longer belonged to the district of Weissenfels, Teuchern was the largest town in the county. For this reason, several attempts of Teucherner council members to shift the Kreisständehaus after Teuchern. This Teuchern county seat would have been. From 1 April 1914, the municipality of Naumburg formed a separate urban district. The previous circle Naumburg led accordingly now the term county. On September 30, 1929 local government reform took place in the districts of Naumburg and Weissenfels place according to the development in the rest of Prussia, in which dissolved all previously independent estate districts and neighboring rural towns have been allocated.

By 1 October 1932, the counties Naumburg and Weissenfels were united to the new district of Weissenfels with the district office in White Rock. To August 1, 1936 parts of the municipalities of Altenburg and Flemmingen from the district of Weissenfels were incorporated into the urban district of Naumburg.

After dissolution of the Province of Saxony on July 1, 1944, the district belonged since the new Province of Halle- Merseburg. In spring 1945 the circle area was occupied by the American forces.

The district of Weissenfels included on January 1, 1945 6 towns and 174 municipalities.

Communal Constitution to 1945

The counties Naumburg and Weissenfels were divided into municipalities, rural communities and - until their full resolution - into independent estate districts.

With the introduction of the Prussian municipality constitutional law of 15 December 1933 and the German church order of January 30, 1935 April 1, 1935, the leader principle was enforced at the community level. The former municipalities Hohenmolsen, Kösen (later: Bad Kösen ), Osterfeld, Schkölen, bumps and Teuchern resulted from 1 January 1934, the name of the city. A new circle Constitution was not created; it still was the district regulations for the provinces of East and West Prussia, Brandenburg, Pomerania, Silesia and Saxony on 19 March 1881.

East and West Germany

In 1946, the first district of the newly founded state of Saxony- Anhalt. In 1950, the former urban districts Naumburg and Weissenfels be connected to the district. As part of the administrative reform of 1952, the countries were dissolved in the GDR and reshaped the districts. It thus emerged the reduced circle Weissenfels and Naumburg county in the district hall.

Shortly before the German reunification, the State of Saxony -Anhalt was re-founded in 1990, the circle Weissenfels was as a county Weissenfels part of the district of Halle. In the first district reform in Saxony -Anhalt in 1994, the county Hohenmolsen was combined with the county Weissenfels. The government districts in Saxony -Anhalt was dissolved on January 1, 2004.

After the (second) the district reform in Saxony -Anhalt, the district was July 1, 2007 with the castle district ( 1994-2007 ) as the new castle county (initially referred to as County Burgenland) merged.
