James F. Izlar

James Ferdinand Izlar (* November 25, 1832 in Orangeburg, Orangeburg County, South Carolina, † May 26, 1912 ) was an American politician. Between 1894 and 1895 he represented the state of South Carolina in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

James Izlar attended the public schools of his home and thereafter until 1855, the Emory College in Oxford ( Georgia). After a subsequent study of law and its made ​​in 1858 admitted to the bar, he began practicing in his new profession. During the Civil War Izlar was an officer in the army of the Confederate States. After the war he worked as a lawyer in Orangeburg.

Politically, Izlar joined the Democratic Party. Between 1880 and 1890 he sat in the Senate of South Carolina. In 1884 he was a delegate to the Democratic National Convention in Chicago, was nominated to the Grover Cleveland as a presidential candidate. In 1889, he was appointed as a judge in the first judicial district of South Carolina.

Following the resignation of Congressman William H. Brawley Izlar was at the election due in the first electoral district of South Carolina as his successor in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC selected.
