Lempzours

The French community Lempzours, Occitan Lemzor, located in the north of the department of Dordogne in the Aquitaine region. It has 167 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) and is one of the ten municipalities of the canton Thiviers.

Etymology

The origin of the place name Lempzours, Occitan Lemzor, is in the dark. There may be a connection with the Occitan word linjoira (French LANIERE ) with the meaning hem, edge, forest edge (or with the Latin limites - limits).

Geography

The community Lempzours located 14 kilometers east of Brantome and ten kilometers southwest of Thiviers (air line). It is surrounded by the following neighboring communities:

  • Vaunac in the Northeast
  • Négrondes the southeast and south
  • Saint-Front- d'Alemps in the southwest and
  • Saint- Pierre -de- Côle in the west, northwest and north.

In addition to the community center consists of the following hamlets, farms, brick kilns, castles and manor:

Main floodlights of the village is flowing to the northwest Hurtle, a left tributary of the desiccating temporarily Côle. In the north of the municipal territory just comes close to a westward draining, left branch of Côle, which temporarily dry falls also. A left-sided splitting this side branch is just over 2 km to the north-eastern boundary Vaunac.

The topographically lowest point in the municipality of Lempzours 137 meters above sea level is located at the northern corner of the left tributary of the Côle. The highest point of 232 meters, is found in two places - at Fauconnie the southeast and at Chef de la Lande (municipality Vaunac ) in the east. The maximum height difference of 95 meters.

Geology

The geological structure of the community Lempzours is relatively simple and consists of flat-lying Upper Cretaceous of northern Aquitaine basin, which is largely obscured by Pleistocene Hüllsedimenten. Openness are Angoumien ( Rudistenkalke ) and Coniacian ( Fossilkalke ). The Hüllsedimenten is river gravel and colluvial their rearrangement products.

The Angoumien lines the valley of Hurtle and can also be found along the side valley on the northern border. The center is located on Upper Angoumien. The following about Coniacian is encountered at the Rase and in small, isolated occurrences. The Hüllsedimente take a good 80 % of its territory in claim, wherein the river gravel to build the high altitudes. Würmeiszeitlicher talus forms the valley filling of the northern side valley of Côle. Rezentes alluvium has been deposited in the Talniederung the Hurtle.

Toneinschaltungen in the Hüllsedimenten were mined as a raw material for the local brickworks.

History

In the municipality of Lempzours prehistoric remains have been found, some traces of the Gallo- Roman period have been preserved. Near the Romanesque local church Notre -Dame from the Twelfth Century remains were discovered Merovingian tombs. The Château de Feydoux castle and the manor Manoir de la Guionie date from the seventeenth century.

The population numbers in Lempzours declined until 1999, but since then they are back on recreation. The general decline was slightly more pronounced than in the rest of the canton Thiviers.

The community Lempzours has the fewest inhabitants, the lowest population density and the smallest total area in Canton Thiviers.

The center of Lempzours is away from busy roads. He can be reached via local streets of Saint -Pierre -de- Côle in the northeast (close to the D 78 of Brantome after Thiviers ) or Négrondes in the southeast ( access to the N 21 from Limoges to Perigueux ).
