Les Graulges

The commune Les Graulges, Occitan Los Grauges, located in the northwest of the department of Dordogne in the Aquitaine region. It has 61 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) and is one of 14 municipalities of the canton of Mareuil. Les Graulges is border village of the Périgord- Limousin Regional Natural Park.

Etymology

Les Graulges, Occitan Los Grauges, possibly derived from the Germanic personal names Gerald.

Geography

Les Graulges located five kilometers north of Mareuil and 17 km west-southwest of Nontron (air line). The community is surrounded by the following neighboring communities:

  • Beaussac the north and east
  • Puyrenier in the southeast
  • Sainte -Croix -de- Mareuil in the south and
  • Combiers (Charente ) to the west and northwest.

Les Graulges is border village of Charente. By area, it is the smallest municipality in the canton of Mareuil.

The community is adjacent to the center of the following hamlets and villages:

Côte de la Bure, Le Maine Lacan, Les Brandes and Malut.

The oldest surviving building in Les Graulges is the Romanesque parish church built in the 12th century.

Les Graulges is located on the D 87 of Beaussac after Combiers ( and on to La Rochebeaucourt ). The D99 leaves the village to the south, crossing the Nizonne and pulls tions Mareuil. To the north is via the same D 99, which passes in the Charente in the D109 and the D25, a compound of charas. A local street binds to the northwest to the D 25 of Combiers to by charas. The north of the parish also crosses a local road that creates a cross connection from the D99 to the road to Hautefaye.
