Saint-Martin-le-Pin

Saint -Martin- le-Pin ( Occitan Sent Martin lu Pench ) is a municipality with 293 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the French department of Dordogne in the Greater Region Aquitaine. It belongs to Canton Nontron and forms part of the Périgord -Limousin Regional Natural Park.

Geography

Saint -Martin- le-Pin is located at the D 94 about five kilometers northwest of Nontron. The border with the municipality of Nontron forms the southwest flowing Ruisseau des Vergnes, a small right-hand tributary of the Bandiat. In the southwest territory extends to the Bandiat approach itself, which is the border line with neighboring municipalities of Saint -Martial -de- Valette and Lussas -et- Nontronneau simultaneously. In the northwest of Saint -Martin- le-Pin presented to the Doue, also a small right-hand tributary of the Bandiat, same border river to the neighboring community Javerlhac -et -la -Chapelle -Saint -Robert and further northeast to Le Bourdeix.

The community is also accessible via the running along the road D 75 Bandiats Department of Nontron after Javerlhac.

To the municipality of Saint -Martin- le-Pin includes several hamlets and isolated lying farms such as Ars, Blanchetière, Chantemerle, Chez Thomas, crachat, Jourdonnières, La Borderie, La Combe au Cros, La Tuilière, Le Moulin de chez Jouanaud, Les Cazes, Lespinasse, Loradour, Merignac, Pas Brouillet, Ribeyrolle, Talivaud and Tranchecouyère.

Geology

The municipality of Saint -Martin- le-Pin is in its integrality of the Variscan basement underlain ( Piégut -Pluviers granodiorite ). The basement is transgrediert of sediments from the Lias, the base conglomerate is seen at La Chapoulie. This is followed by arkoses, dolomites and limestones. From Nontron pulls over a northeast-southwest trending fault zone where the northeast half was lifted. This disorder is quite strongly mineralized in part, as a mineral levels to find barite, galena, Greenockit, pyrite and sphalerite, which were formerly mined in place. A smaller left open tunnel ( Mine de la Mairie ) has been preserved. Associated with the fault zone penetrated on siliceous solutions, which led to some very strong recrystallization and silicification of the Lower Jurassic sediments.

History

The Romanesque church of Saint -Martin dates from the 12th century and in 1942 was classified as a monument historique .. Noteworthy is the entrance portal.

The community was called before 1789 Saint Martin le Peint .. St. Martin had therefore nothing to do with the tree species, " pine ", but was " painted ".

Demographics

Population growth has experienced a decline after 1968, since 1975 it is largely stable.
