Payzac (Dordogne)

PAYZAC is a commune with 1047 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) in the Dordogne in the Aquitaine region; it belongs to the district Nontron and Canton Lanouaille. The village lies on a hill overlooking the valley of the river Auvézère.

History

PAYZAC belonged in the mid- parent for viscounty Limoges. In 1608 it was sold to the du Mas de Paysac family.

The place was Peisac, Peyzac, Paysac written since the end of the 19th century then PAYZAC. In 1961, the official Payzac -de- Lanouaille was replaced by PAYZAC.
