Saint-Front-sur-Nizonne

Saint-Front- sur- Nizonne ( Occitan Sent Front de Champs Nier ) is a commune of 148 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the north of the Dordogne in the Aquitaine region. It belongs to the district Nontron and Canton Nontron. It also forms part of the Périgord -Limousin Regional Natural Park.

Etymology

The name of the municipality of Saint-Front- sur- Nizonne is derived from the Holy Fronto ( Sanctus Fronto ) and from the river Nizonne. The nordokzitanische designation Champs Nier means black fields and playing on the fertile soil of.

Geography

Saint-Front- sur- Nizonne is just six kilometers south-southwest of Nontron and 32 kilometers north of Perigueux.

The community is surrounded by the following neighboring communities:

  • Saint -Martial -de- Valette in the North
  • Sceau - Saint-Angel in the East
  • La Chapelle- Montmoreau in the southeast
  • Saint- Crépin- de -Richemont in the south
  • Champeaux -et -la- Chapelle- Pommier in the West

To the municipality of Saint-Front- sur- Nizonne include the following hamlets, farmsteads and a Good:

Bobatenchas, Domaine de Bagatelle, Ferme de Bagatelle, Eyport, Filoine, La Chaise, Laugeas, Le Repaire, Les Mines, Les Nouailles, Puybaronneau and Puyberaud.

The municipality is traversed approximately in the center of the Nizonne in a westerly direction.

The topographically lowest point of the municipality is located 153 meters above the sea on the Nizonne in the west, the highest point at 263 meters at Brissoneau (municipality Sceau -Saint- Angel) in the far northeast.

Geology

The municipality of Saint-Front- sur- Nizonne is bounded on the north and south by ridges that are covered on the surface of Pleistocene alluvium and colluvium fluvial origin. Bedrock occurs only in Nizonnetal and smaller deposits on the northern and southern ridge. The Nizonne has exposed flat-lying limestones of Turoniums ( Ligérien and lower Angoumien ). At the northern ridge, there are fine-grained, beige Oolithkalke of the Oxfordian ( Dogger ). At the southern ridge at Filoine and Bagatelle two occurrences of rock-forming river gravels are on that may have a eozänes age. They are only the beginning of a very extensive fossil river system until shortly before Léguillac -de- Cercle expands in South West direction. It shows a significantly increased erosion activity in the Massif Central at the time.

History

At the Domaine de Bagatelle are the remains of a Roman road. The Romanesque church in the village of Saint-Front- sur- Nizonne dates from the 12th century. Le Repaire is a medieval residence from the mid-13th century.

The community was in accordance with the Occitan name until 1793 the name of Saint Front de Champniers, 1801, the spelling was changed to Saint-Front -de- Champniers. The current name was established in 1912.

Saint-Front- sur- Nizonne lost in the 1960s, a third of its population. However, the population numbers are on the rise since 1982 and have now returned to their old level.

Transport links

On the western edge of the town, the D 84 runs from Nontron after Verteillac. Just before crossing the Nizonne turns left a municipal road that leads east to the town center. The center left two local roads to the north; they both make a connection to Saint -Martial -de- Valette, the right to D 675 ( Nontron - Brantome ) branches. The village center is also a local road to the south that leads back to either the D or 84 turns to La Chapelle- Montmoreau or to Saint -Crépin -de -Richemont.

Waste collection

On the northern edge of the municipality of Saint-Front- sur- Nizonne located in Pleistocene sands the central waste collection (French Déchetterie ) of the Canton of Nontron.
