Mialet (Dordogne)

Mialet, often Miallet, Occitan Mialet, is a commune with 672 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the north of the department of Dordogne in the Aquitaine region. It belongs to the district Nontron and the canton of Saint- Pardoux- la -Rivière. It also forms part of the Périgord -Limousin Regional Natural Park.

Etymology

Mialet is derived from the New Latin melusetum with the meaning apple orchard and apple orchard. Melusetum turn passes back to the Latin malus (apple).

Geography

Mialet located 13 kilometers southwest of Châlus and 15 kilometers north of Thiviers (air line). Until the east, from La Coquille there are scarce six kilometers.

The meandering Dronne flows from the east to the north-west part of the township Mialet and forms before leaving the municipal area to the southwest, the Western border to Saint- Saut -Lacoussière. The southeast part crosses the Côle which is just east dammed from the center to a 77 -acre reservoir ( Retenue de Miallet ). The Côle takes just below Mialet as a right tributary of the Coly on which pervades coming from the northeast, the municipality approximately in the center. Geology

History
