1992 Winter Paralympics

The 5th Winter Paralympics were held in the French city of Albertville from 25 March to 1 April 1992. The Paralympics is the Olympics for people with physical disabilities. The Games in Albertville were the first that took place at the Olympic Winter Games directly afterwards. Approximately 365 athletes from 24 nations participated in 79 competitions. The opening ceremony and all other celebratory events were held for the alpine skiing events before the target area. For the first time in Paralympic Winter Games, all athletes were housed in a kind of Olympic Village.

Outstanding athletes

The German alpine skier Reinhild Möller won four gold medals. She, her teammate Gerd Schoenfelder (Alpine Skiing) and Frank Hoefle ( biathlon and cross-country), which both won three gold medals, as well as the rest of the German team bestowed Germany with a total of 38 medals to second place in the overall medal table.
