1996 Summer Paralympics
The 10th Summer Paralympics were held from August 16 to August 25 in 1996 in Atlanta instead. It 508 competitions were held, which were spread over 20 different sports. In 17 of these 20 sports by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) awarded medals.
For the first time mentally handicapped athletes participated along with athletes with spinal cord impairments, cerebral palsy, amputations and visual impairments.
The Games of approximately 12,000 volunteers were supported. Despite all these Paralympics came to an embarrassment for the organizers, as the organizers in Atlanta could already reduce the bodies after the Summer Olympics, so that the quasi Paralympics took place in ruins.
