2011 World Fencing Championships
The World Fencing Championships 2011 took place from 8 to 16 October 2011 in the Sicilian city of Catania instead. The choice of venue was made on 24 November 2009 by the International Fencing Federation ( FIE ). The application from Italy won against candidates from Budapest ( Hungary) and Tianjin ( China).
Italy was after 1955, 1961, 1982 and 2006 for the fifth time hosting the World Fencing Championships. On the program, three individual and team competitions were among the ladies and gentlemen.

Competitions and schedule
The program included competitions in fencing genres sword, foil and saber, divided into Individual and teams as well as ladies and gentlemen. There have therefore been awarded 12 gold and 12 silver medals. Since the third place in the individual will not be fought in the team competitions already, there are shared spaces and thus 18 bronze medals.
