2013 World Men's Handball Championship

The 23rd World Handball Championship for men ( Spanish: Campeonato Mundial de Balonmano Masculino de 2013) was held in Spain from 11 to 27 January 2013. The team from the host, the Spanish team won the championship in the final against the Danish team with 35:19.

Host

The International Handball Federation (IHF ) Spain was on October 2, 2010 in Herzogenaurach determined as hosts by the Council. The Royal Spanish Handball Federation came into office the only candidate after the associations from Denmark, South Korea and Norway had recently withdrawn their candidacy. Denmark withdrew the application after the country had been awarded the contract for the European Handball Championship 2014 on 25 September 2010. On December 7, 2010 Hassan Moustafa signed for the IHF and Juan de Dios Román Seco for the Spanish Association of the Treaty on the hosting of the World Cup 2013.

Qualification

The tournament was attended by 24 teams. Qualified automatically as hosts were Spain and France as world champion in 2011; the other 22 teams qualified via their continental federations in tournament form.

Group draw

The draw for the preliminary round groups of the Handball World Championship 2013 took place on 19 July 2012 in the Jardines del Buen Retiro in Madrid. The 24 qualified teams were divided into four groups of six teams. This causes the following groups arise:

Schedule

The first round began on January 11, 2013 with the opening match against Algeria Spain in Madrid. For the remaining 22 teams, the tournament began a day later. The preliminary round was played in four groups of six teams; each group played in Madrid, Barcelona / Granollers, Seville and Zaragoza. The first round ended on 19 January 2013.

The teams that places 1 to 4 occupied in their group after the group matches, qualified for the final round. The teams ranked 5 and 6 played on 21 and 22 January 2013 President's Cup on.

In the final round of the last sixteen games were held in Barcelona and Zaragoza on 20 and 21 January 2013. The quarter-finals took place on 23 January, the semi-final on 25 January. The 3rd place match and the final was held on 26 and 27 January 2013.
