Alex Fontana

Alessandro "Alex" Fontana (born 5 August 1992 Lugano) is a Swiss- Greek race car driver. It starts with a Swiss racing license. In 2011, he won the European F3 Open Rating. Since 2011 he start in the GP3 Series.


Fontana began his motorsport career in karting, where he was active until 2008. Among other things, he was 2007 Swiss KF3 karting champion. In 2009 he moved to the Formula racing and entered into the formula Azzurra. While his teammate Alberto Cerqui won the championship title, Fontana was seventh with two wins. Fontana 2010 advocated Corbetta Competizioni in the Italian Formula 3 Championship. With a twelfth place as best result he had no points. 2011 Fontana joined in the European F3 Open, in which he also took for Corbetta Competizioni. With two wins, he decided the overall standings for themselves. He won the title duel with 120 to 115 points against David Fumanelli. In addition, Fontana made ​​her debut this season for Jenzer Motorsport in the GP3 Series and took part in a race weekend. He immediately secured a point.

2012 Fontana joined in the FIA Formula 2 Championship. With a win, he finished the season closed off on the seventh place overall. In addition, Fontana returned for two events to Jenzer Motorsport back in the GP3 Series. With a fourth place as best result he finished 18th in the overall standings. 2013 Fontana denied for Jenzer Motorsport its first full season in the GP3 Series. With a third place as best result, he finished the season in 17th place overall. In addition, he was admitted to the funding of the Formula 1 team Lotus. 2014 Fontana moved within the GP3 series with ART Grand Prix.


Fontana has the Swiss and Greek citizenship. It starts with Swiss license. His father played in the 1980 Formula Ford race.
