Bergholtz, Haut-Rhin

Bergholtz (German Bergholz) is a commune with 1072 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Haut-Rhin in the Alsace region. She is a member of the Association of Municipalities Région de Guebwiller.

Geography

The village is situated on the eastern edge of the southern Vosges region in the Upper Rhine Plain, between the Talausgängen of Quierenbach and leeks. The west of the municipal area is forested ( Forêt de communale Bergholtz ). Here the Oberlinger is achieved with 574 m above sea level, the highest point on the eastern cliffs. The distance to the towns of Colmar and Mulhouse, in the north to the south is around 25 kilometers.

The territory of Bergholtz is part of the Regional Natural Park of Ballons des Vosges.

Neighboring communities of Bergholtz are Bergholtzzell and Orschwihr in the north, Rouffach in the northeast, Gundolsheim in the east, the south and Issenheim Guebwiller in the southwest.

History

In a document of the monastery Murbach the existence of the place is confirmed since 680.

Economy

The viticulture plays an important economic role; on the territory of the municipality is a part of the Alsace Grand Cru vineyard mirror, the other part is on the boundary Guebwiller. According to the site is located on the Alsace Wine Route.

Partnership

Bergholtz maintains since 2000 a partnership with the Belgian municipality Hotton in the Ardennes.
