Buhl (Haut-Rhin)

Buhl ( German: Buhl ) is a commune with 3265 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Haut-Rhin in the Alsace region. She is a member of the Association of Municipalities Région de Guebwiller.

Geography

Buhl, on the creek Lauch in the Regional Natural Park of Ballons des Vosges. As the D430 road department serves. It crosses a Florival called valley that extends southeast to Guebwiller. Buhl's neighboring villages are Murbach in the southwest ( in between the district Rimlishof ), the settlement Hugstein with castle ruins in the southeast and Schweighouse (part of Lautenbach ) in the north. On both sides, the area is heavily wooded, on the east by a spur of the Forêt de communal Orschwihr (Wald Orschwihr ).

History

Buhl was the first time in writing under the name Bühele mentioned in 1135th Later spellings were Buohele, Buohile, Bühel, since the 16th century then Buhl.

1227 was Hugo ( Hugues ) de Rothenbourg, abbot of the monastery Murbach, a castle built to protect the entrance to Murbach.

Attractions

In the neo-Romanesque church of Saint -Jean -Baptiste (John the Baptist ) from the 19th century to see a altarpiece from the 15th century, which probably comes from Martin Schongauer. It was taken during the French Revolution from a monastery in Colmar Buhl, to protect it from destruction.

At the entrance to the ruins of the castle Murbach Hugstein is from the 13th century. Its remains are located not only in the municipality of Buhl, but also on the Guebwiller, because the border between the two towns passes exactly through the center of the keep.
